I have been thinking of the idea of surrender and selfless service lately. The words are used often within the circles I frequent, but there are many different understandings of the meaning and principle of the words.
Surrender to means complete release of everything under one's control. On an individual level, I can only control my actions and reactions to life. On a societal level I can change many factors of the environment and "theme" of the interactions which are generally referred to as 'Life'.
The bag of marbles represents my actions and reactions as I proceed through each day. My will is the choices I make before, during, and as the result of each of those interactions. My life is the sum total, or 'narative' of the interactions and the resulting reactions I receive from those actions. When I surrender to the will of God, the Higher Power in my life, the One Who Has All Power, I am handing over the whole bag of marbles, and accepting the ones that I am given to play with, rather than attempting to choose. When I cease attempting to BE the God of my Life, and Choose my Actions with an attempt to do the correct thing according to my understanding of the Will of God through my study of the Word of God and the collected learning of those with whom I interact, I have faith in the belief that God, as He has revealed Himself to me, will guide me and that the intuitive feeling of "right and wrong" IS God's way of telling me what "the Next Right Thing" to DO will be, or is in the moment of Decision.
